About

We decode what your baby's label hides.

BébéDécrypte grades every baby pot, infant formula, cereal and pouch from A to E. Independent. Transparent. Reviewed by a paediatrician. No brand pays to change a grade.

The story

It started with a box of baby cereal labelled "natural, from 6 months". The front of pack promised simple, healthy, "no added sugar". Flip the label and you find maltodextrin, glucose syrup, emulsifiers. An ultra-processed product in pastel clothing. The Nutri-Score on the front was a B.

In 2017, the Lactalis recall exposed infants to salmonella for months before the alert system caught up. In 2021, Blédina pulled baby pot batches for metal fragments. Every time, parents learned too late.

We looked for a public tool that combined the NOVA classification, the EFSA additives registry, the RappelConso feed, and ANSES paediatric nutrition opinions. It did not exist. So we built it, with a baby-specific weighting and paediatric review.

BébéDécrypte is built on a simple conviction: 663,000 babies are born in France every year, that many parents in daily research for three years. They deserve a single, reproducible verdict, anchored in official sources, on every product they buy. Not pastel marketing. One grade from A to E, sourced, recomputed at every reformulation.

Our declared enemy

Industrial brands that hide sugar, ultra-processing and additives behind reassuring pastel packaging. The "natural", "from 4 months", "recommended by paediatricians", "no added sugar" claims that tell half the truth. Maltodextrin replacing sucrose to escape the "added sugar" label. Palm oil still in follow-on formulas. Adult-authorised additives applied to infants without hesitation.

We do not rate brands. We rate their exact composition against ANSES, EFSA, ESPGHAN opinions, against published research, against the reality of the European baby aisle.

What drives us

Total transparency

Every grade is deterministic and reproducible. The methodology is public. No black box.

Zero influence

No brand pays to change a grade. Affiliate links fund the site, never the scoring.

For the consumer

Every page is written for an aisle-side decision, not a regulator. Clarity over exhaustiveness.

Our editorial promise

  • No payment ever changes a grade. Affiliate links fund the operation but do not touch scoring.
  • Official sources only. ANSES, EFSA, Open Food Facts, NOVA, Santé publique France. Every data point cited.
  • Open methodology. Every grade is reproducible from our methodology page .
  • No individualised medical advice. For any allergic background, growth monitoring, CMPA or special diet, consult your paediatrician. Our guides are reviewed by Dr. Claire Vasseur, paediatric nutritionist (University Degree in Paediatric Nutrition, Paris Descartes).
  • Data respect. Never sold. See our privacy policy .

How we fund the site

The site is free for all users. We receive an affiliate commission when someone clicks a link to a partner marketplace (supplements, organic brands, quality groceries). That commission never touches the scoring. Brands cannot negotiate a grade upgrade.

A parent of an infant searches several times a day, for three years, before every purchase. That is the most anxious consumer in the food market, and the most poorly served by labels. If we can help one pot get read for real, the project pays for itself.
